2016 Indigenous Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC
Notes of passion fruit and vanilla layered with mineral noyes and accompanied by hints of lindenberry, stone fruits and white peach are balanced with good acidity and a crisp, elegant finish. Beautiful evolution.
Giorgio Rivetti, owner and winemaker of La Spinetta & Contratto, has been working with Stefano Antonucci from Tenuta Santa Barbara in Le Marche for years. Stefano, whose wines have a cult-like following, is today one of the most iconic winemakers in Le Marche. Giorgio and Stefano chose a particular parcel of Verdicchio to dedicate to the Indigenous label. The vines are slightly older, 20-25 years, with southwest exposure. You can feel the proximity to the sea in the wine. What we found most interesting about this particular Verdicchio is how well it is aging, barely showing any tertiary notes yet. The acidity is still bright with beautiful layers of green apple and pear all intertwined in a wine that's quality far exceeds its price.
